Citizen’s Academy Notice

Thank you for your interest in the City of Prescott Citizen’s Academy.

All classes are currently full through October 2026.

Applications will reopen after October 2026 to begin accepting participants for the 2027 program year. Please check back at that time to submit your application.

We encourage you to review the information below to learn more about the program structure including attendance, expectations and scheduling details.

Please submit an application to be placed on the participation list for the next available academy. Please only put one name per application.

Staff will reach out with information for the next available Citizens Academy. Each academy is limited to roughly 30 participants, and light refreshments will be served (we recommend eating dinner beforehand).

The Citizens Academy occurs May–June and September–October each year. Each academy is eight weeks long and held on Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at varying locations. Participants may miss no more than two classes to remain eligible for graduation.

The City of Prescott’s Citizen’s Academy is designed to provide a positive, respectful, and productive learning environment where community members can engage with City staff and learn more about the services and operations that support daily life here in Prescott. To ensure a safe and welcoming experience for all participants, we ask that everyone uphold the standards and values that guide our organization and our community.

Act With Integrity & Respect

Engage with honesty, courtesy, and professionalism. Treat presenters, staff, and fellow participants with the same respect you expect in return.

Support a Neighborly, Team-Oriented Environment

Listen actively, be kind, and allow space for everyone to participate. A collaborative atmosphere helps the Academy thrive.

Stay Focused & Avoid Political Discussion

To maintain a productive and educational setting, please refrain from political debates, campaign discussions, or other divisive topics. The Academy is centered on City operations, how they affect the community, and the shared values that bring us together.

Respect Personal Space & Boundaries

Be mindful of others’ comfort levels. Maintain appropriate personal space and avoid unwanted physical contact to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.

Bring Positivity and Curiosity

Participate fully, stay engaged, and enjoy the experience! Ask questions, contribute thoughtfully, and help uphold the high standards that reflect Prescott’s values and community spirit.

Support a Safe and Enjoyable Experience

If any situation arises that makes you uncomfortable or requires staff attention, please notify a City representative immediately so we can address it promptly and respectfully.

Waiver of Liability and Participation Agreement

In consideration of my participation in the City of Prescott Citizen’s Academy, on behalf of myself and all heirs, administrators, executors, and assigns, I agree to the following:

Assumption of Risk and Waiver of Liability
I hereby release and agree to hold harmless the City of Prescott, its elected officials, employees, representatives, volunteers, and agents from any and all liability for any damage, loss, injury, or death which may occur or result, regardless of the cause, from my participation in the Citizen’s Academy. This release shall apply to any claim, demand, suit, or right of action that may accrue to myself, my heirs, or my personal representatives, including claims of negligence.

I acknowledge that participation may involve inherent risks, including but not limited to use of City facilities, equipment, and vehicles. I voluntarily assume all risks associated with my participation and agree not to seek contribution or indemnification from the City of Prescott if I am sued by any party in connection with my participation.

Use of City Vehicles, Facilities, and Equipment
I specifically agree to waive and release any and all liability related to my presence in, use of, or access to City of Prescott vehicles, facilities, or equipment during the Citizen’s Academy. I understand that such use is incidental to participation in the Academy and that all safety instructions provided by City staff must be followed at all times.

Media Consent
I consent to the unrestricted use of my image and/or name in connection with the Citizen’s Academy by the City of Prescott or any person authorized by the City, including but not limited to photographs, audio/video recordings, interviews, or other media, whether for television, radio, online, or print purposes.

Participants
I understand that participation in the Citizen’s Academy is voluntary, that I will not be paid for my involvement, and that either the City of Prescott or I may terminate my participation at any time for any reason. I further understand that by signing this Waiver, I am giving up my right to sue the City of Prescott for any damages arising out of my participation.

Acknowledgment
I, the undersigned, have carefully read and fully understand the City of Prescott Citizens Academy Waiver of Liability, Participation Agreement, and Participation Guidelines.

I acknowledge that I am voluntarily participating in this program and releasing certain legal rights as outlined in the Waiver. I further agree to abide by the Code of Conduct to help create a respectful, safe, and positive experience for all participants, staff, and volunteers.

I understand that this Waiver and Acknowledgment will remain valid and in effect indefinitely from the date of my signature, unless revoked in writing. I also understand that failure to follow the Code of Conduct or program guidelines may result in being asked not to continue participation in the Citizens Academy.

I sign this Acknowledgment and Release of my own free will.
